Hello, I’m Suraj Barai, a Professional Life Insurance Consultant with Life Insurance Corporation of India (LICI), an author, educator, YouTube creator, blogger, and insurance content creator.
I have been working in the insurance field since 2016, helping individuals and families understand life insurance, financial protection, long-term planning, and the importance of preparing financially for different stages of life.
Over the years, insurance has become more than just my profession. It has also become an area where I continuously learn, work with people, gain practical experience, and share what I have learned with others.
My work today has two important sides. One is helping customers with insurance-related needs, and the other is educating insurance advisors and learners through practical content, books, courses, videos, and articles.
If you have come to this website to learn about life insurance, insurance selling, financial planning, personal finance, or insurance advisory, I hope you will find useful information here.
My Professional Experience in Insurance
I started my insurance career in 2016 and gradually learned the profession through training, self-study, customer meetings, fieldwork, discussions, mistakes, experimentation, and continuous interaction with different types of customers.
Along with my work as a Life Insurance Consultant with LIC of India, I also work as a Pinnacle Advisor with Niva Bupa Health Insurance and as an agent with SBI General Insurance.
Working across life, health, and general insurance has helped me understand different types of customer protection needs and has given me broader practical experience in the insurance industry.
Working directly with customers taught me that insurance selling is not simply about explaining a policy, showing benefits, or asking someone to buy an insurance plan.
Every customer has a different financial situation, different priorities, different concerns, and a different way of making financial decisions. Understanding these differences is an important part of being an effective insurance advisor.
During my journey, I have worked on prospecting, approaching customers, understanding their requirements, presenting insurance solutions, handling objections, following up, closing sales, and maintaining relationships after the sale.
These practical experiences have shaped the way I understand insurance selling today.
I continue to believe that an insurance advisor can improve significantly by learning from real customer conversations and actual field situations instead of depending only on theoretical sales techniques.
I Teach What I Have Personally Tested
One thing that is especially important about my educational work is that I focus on field-tested methods.
I do not want to teach insurance selling only from theory or repeat information that sounds good inside a textbook but becomes difficult to apply when you actually sit in front of a customer.
Many of the ideas, approaches, and selling methods that I share are based on things that I have personally tried, tested, observed, improved, and used during my own insurance fieldwork.
Some approaches worked well for me, while others taught me what I should change or avoid in a particular situation.
That practical learning is valuable because insurance selling happens in the real world, where customers ask unexpected questions, raise objections, postpone decisions, compare alternatives, reject proposals, and sometimes change their minds.
Therefore, when I create educational content, I try to explain not only what to do, but also how the idea can be understood and applied in practical insurance work.
My books, courses, videos, and articles are created from this approach: learn from experience, test in the field, improve the method, and then share the learning.
Insurance Selling Education
If you are an insurance advisor, insurance agent, or someone learning insurance sales, much of my educational content is created specifically to help you understand the practical side of selling insurance.
Insurance selling involves much more than knowing policy features, premiums, benefits, terms, and conditions. An advisor also needs communication skills, prospecting skills, patience, follow-up discipline, and the ability to understand customer needs.
Through my educational content, I cover areas such as prospecting, pre-approach, approach, need analysis, presentation, objection handling, closing, follow-up, customer relationships, and insurance sales conversations.
I try to explain these topics in simple language so that beginners can understand them without feeling that insurance selling is unnecessarily complicated.
At the same time, experienced advisors can look at these ideas from a practical perspective and identify areas they may want to improve in their own daily work.
My objective is not to provide one magic formula for selling insurance. Instead, I want to share practical frameworks, experiences, observations, and field-tested approaches that advisors can understand and adapt according to their own situation.
Author of Insurance Selling Books
My experience in the insurance field eventually encouraged me to put my practical learning into books so that it could reach more insurance advisors beyond my regular customer and professional interactions.
I have written books focused on insurance selling, insurance sales techniques, prospecting, customer conversations, objection handling, follow-up, closing, and practical experiences from the field.
One of my books is Insurance Selling Handbook, a practical guide created for insurance advisors who want to understand the complete insurance selling process and improve their approach toward customers.
Another book, How I Sold 50 Policies, shares practical lessons from my experience of selling 50 policies in one financial year and the activities, approaches, challenges, and learning connected with that journey.
I have also worked on 7 Steps of Insurance Selling, which explains insurance selling as a process starting from prospecting and moving through approach, presentation, objection handling, closing, and follow-up.
The purpose behind these books is simple: I want to convert practical field experience into useful learning material that another insurance advisor can read, understand, and apply.
Insurance Sales Course & Education
Along with writing books, I also create educational courses for people who want to improve their insurance sales knowledge and practical selling skills.
I have created Complete Insurance Sales Course in Hindi on Udemy, with the aim of making insurance sales learning easier for people who prefer learning through simple Hindi explanations.
The course covers important areas of insurance selling and focuses on helping learners understand the process rather than simply memorising sales statements or policy information.
My teaching style is based on simple explanations, practical examples, real-world situations, and step-by-step learning so that a beginner can follow the subject without feeling overwhelmed.
I believe an insurance advisor should not only know what to say but should also understand why a particular approach is useful, when it can be used, and how the customer may respond.
That is why practical experience remains an important part of the way I create and teach insurance sales content.
YouTube, Blogging & Content Creation
My journey as a digital creator started before my insurance career became the main focus of my professional life.
Over the years, I have experimented with YouTube, blogging, websites, online publishing, digital content, and different forms of internet-based learning, which gave me experience in creating and sharing information online.
Today, I use these digital platforms primarily to share educational content related to insurance, insurance selling, personal finance, financial planning, money management, and learning.
My YouTube content allows me to explain topics through videos, while my website gives me the opportunity to write detailed articles and create resources that readers can return to whenever they need them.
I have also learned that creating content is itself a continuous learning process. You need to understand your audience, explain things clearly, remain consistent, and keep improving your communication.
That experience has influenced the way I create educational resources for both customers and insurance professionals.
What You Will Find on SurajBarai.com
SurajBarai.com is my personal website and knowledge platform where I share information, experiences, educational resources, and practical ideas across several related areas.
The primary areas include life insurance, insurance planning, insurance selling, insurance sales, insurance advisor training, financial planning, personal finance, savings, money management, business, entrepreneurship, and personal growth.
If you are an insurance advisor, you may find articles and resources related to prospecting, customer communication, selling techniques, objections, follow-up, and improving your insurance sales process.
If you are an individual or family researching insurance and financial topics, you can explore articles designed to make complicated subjects easier to understand.
I always try to keep the content practical and simple because my purpose is not to use complicated language to demonstrate knowledge. My purpose is to help you understand the topic.
My Approach to Financial & Insurance Content
When it comes to insurance and financial topics, I believe information should be explained clearly enough for an ordinary person to understand before making an important decision.
Insurance involves long-term financial commitments, so understanding the purpose, suitability, benefits, limitations, and conditions of a product is important before making a decision.
My role through this website and my educational platforms is to share information and practical learning in a simple and understandable manner.
For insurance advisors, I focus more on practical selling skills and field experience. For general readers, I focus on explaining insurance and financial concepts in a way that is easier to follow.
I also believe that educational content should encourage people to understand their situation rather than blindly follow a particular recommendation.
Learn first, understand the need, consider the options, and then make an informed decision.
Why Field Experience Matters to Me
A large part of what I teach today comes from experiences that happened outside a classroom.
When you meet a real customer, you cannot always predict what question they will ask, what objection they will raise, or what concern they may have about buying insurance.
Sometimes a carefully prepared presentation works well. Sometimes a simple conversation works better. Sometimes the customer is not ready, and proper follow-up becomes more important than immediate closing.
These experiences taught me that insurance selling is not about memorising one perfect script.
It is about understanding people, listening carefully, asking relevant questions, identifying needs, communicating clearly, building trust, and knowing when to follow up.
That is why I use the phrase field-tested when describing my insurance selling content.
I share methods and lessons that have come from practical attempts, real interactions, observation, mistakes, improvements, and experience—not from theory alone.
My Mission
My mission is to make insurance, financial planning, and insurance selling knowledge simpler, more practical, and easier to learn.
For individuals and families, I want to help make insurance and financial topics easier to understand so that they can ask better questions and make informed decisions according to their own needs.
For insurance advisors, I want to share practical knowledge that can help them improve their prospecting, communication, customer conversations, objection handling, follow-up, closing, and long-term customer service.
For learners, I want my books, courses, videos, and articles to provide useful knowledge without unnecessary complexity.
Most importantly, I want to continue learning myself because the insurance industry, customer expectations, technology, and ways of communicating continue to change.
My Learning Philosophy
My personal approach to learning can be described in four simple words:
Learn. Test. Improve. Share.
I learn from books, people, customers, professional experiences, mistakes, experiments, and new ideas.
Then I try to understand whether that learning actually works in a practical situation.
If something works, I try to understand why it worked. If something does not work, I look at what can be improved and what lesson can be taken from the experience.
After that, I share the learning through my content, books, courses, videos, or articles.
This cycle of learning and sharing is something I want to continue throughout my professional and digital journey.
A Little About My Journey
My professional journey was not a straight line from the beginning.
Before entering the insurance profession, I explored computers, blogging, websites, YouTube, digital content, online business ideas, and several other projects.
Some of those experiments worked for a period of time, while many others did not produce the results I expected.
Those experiences gave me lessons about consistency, patience, learning, focus, experimentation, and the importance of staying with something long enough to understand it properly.
Eventually, my insurance career became an important part of my life, while my interest in technology and content creation continued alongside it.
I have kept that journey separate from this About page because it is a much longer story and includes many experiences that deserve proper explanation.
If you want to know how I started with the internet, blogging, YouTube, computers, websites, and eventually entered the insurance field, you can read my detailed story separately.
